NGDC Index to Marine and Lacustrine Geological Samples
The Index to Marine and Lacustrine Geological Samples is a collaboration between twenty institutions and agencies that operate geological sample repositories. The purpose of the database is to help researchers locate sea floor and lakebed cores, grabs, dredges, and drill samples in their collections.
LRC Core Laboratory
The Limnological Research Center Core Facility is an open laboratory operating with funds from the National Science Foundation and the University of Minnesota. The mission of the Core Facility is to provide expertise, equipment, and instrumentation in support of the collection and study of lake sediment cores to the global paleolimnological community. The Facility comprises a pallette of lake coring and water sampling equipment and vessels, a laboratory with state-of-the-art instrumentation for initial core description (ICD) and special studies, and connections to other campus laboratories for further analytical research. The Core Facility is tightly coupled with LacCore, and jointly these units employ two full-time staff with the mandate of supporting and assisting visiting researchers and developing new techniques and capabilities. Materials and chemicals are provided to users at cost, and technicians are available at hourly wages to conduct analytical procedures.
Large Lakes Observatory
Located on the Duluth campus of the University of Minnesota, the Large Lakes Observatory (LLO) is the only institute in the country dedicated to the study of large lakes world wide. Research focuses on the global implications of investigations in the areas of aquatic chemistry, circulation dynamics, geochemistry, acoustic remote sensing, plankton dynamics, sedimentology and paleoclimatology.
St. Croix Watershed Research Station
Research at the SCWRS focuses on scientifically and environmentally important questions on regional, national, and global scales. The research program emphasizes aquatic-based studies involving land-water interaction, biogeochemistry, hydrology, restoration ecology, and aquatic biology.
Institute for Rock Magnetism
The IRM was established to provide free-of-charge access to state-of-the-art facilities and technical expertise, and to encourage visiting researchers in their studies of important new topics in rock magnetism and related interdisciplinary fields.
National Center for Earth-surface Dynamics
NCED’s purpose is to catalyze development of an integrated, predictive science of the processes shaping the surface of the Earth, in order to transform management of ecosystems, resources, and land use.
DOSECC
Drilling, Observation and Sampling of the Earth’s Continental Crust, Inc. is a nonprofit corporation whose mission is to provide leadership and technical support in subsurface sampling and monitoring technology for addressing topics of scientific and societal importance.
ICDP
The International Continental Scientific Drilling Program is a multinational program to further and fund Geosciences in the field of Continental Scientific Drilling.
