LacCore at the Art Shanty Projects 2008

LacCore will be out on the ice at Medicine Lake with organizers of the Science Shanty this year, providing sediment core sampling demonstrations, looking at lake sediments under microscopes, and maybe doing some finger painting with the mud. LacCore staff and grad students will be on site the afternoon of Saturday, January 19th (opening day), and probably again on Saturday, February 2 - but the Limnologists of the Science Shanty will have our coring equipment every weekend, and can demonstrate mud collection and inspection while LacCore folks are not there.

The Bell Museum of Natural History's upcoming climate change exhibit includes "Mysteries in the Mud: Climate Change in the Big Woods," focusing on Professor Bryan Shuman's research on moisture balance and vegetation history in southern Minnesota. LacCore is providing scientific support and materials for this exhibit, including coring equipment, an embedded sediment core, and slides of microscopic sediment components.

The exhibit opens February 16 and runs through April 11, 2008.
